Hollingbury Local Action Team (LAT)

Meets at The Gathering Place, Orchid View (off Cuckmere Way). Please see below for future meeting dates/times.

The Hollingbury LAT is a local Hollingbury community-led group made up of representatives of local groups, local councillors, residents and workers in the area. This group is focussed on raising local community issues and finding solutions to them. The main objective of the group is to tackle Hollingbury safety and environmental related issues. The group has a local resident Chair, Bob Hill.

Our Aims:

Hollingbury residents have given us 3 main aims to concentrate on this past year:
1)Increasing road safety around Carden Primary School.
2)Protecting the newly developed Carden Park play area from anti social behaviour.
3)Raising awareness of how safe it is to live in Hollingbury.

What have we achieved?

Working in partnership with other community groups like HAPPI (Hollingbury Active Parents for Park Improvement), HUMFRI (Hollingbury United Mums for Road Improvements), the Tenants & Residents Assn (HTRA) and the Newsletter Group; and with various departments of the council and voluntary sector organisations like the Trust for Developing Communities, Hollingbury LAT has had quite a few achievements.

Successful project with the local community groups HUMFRI (Hollingbury United Mums for Road Improvements), the Under 5s' Network, the local school and Hollingbury LAT to change the crossing build-outs in Carden Hill, reduce speed limits in County Oak Avenue, (running past the school entrances), and succesfully changing the road layout to relieve the parking problems during school pick up and drop off times.
We've also solved the issue of problem footballers in Eastfield Crescent.
Successful Public Meeting about traffic and parking problems in County Oak Avenue, October 2008.
20 mph in County Oak Ave with designs by children from the school.
Yellow lines on steps of twitten in Denton Drive in response to people with partial sight.
Working in partnership successfully with local Councillors and council officers. Pavements/curbs, dog bins and other local issues have been dealt with swiftly and efficiently.
Supporting HAPPI in their work on Carden Park play area – currently 90k raised and working on another 10k in order to build a zip wire for the third stage of the park development. We have also solved countless other small and large problems for local people.

Introduction from our Chair:

“Hello,

My name is Bob Hill, and I've been a resident in Hollingbury for about a year and a half. However during this time i've become involved in various local groups and enjoyed that community spirit and keeness of people to make Hollingbury better. They are loads of great people living in Hollingbury and sometimes it feels like we get a bit forgotten. However, being part of the Local Action Team (as well as the tennants and residents assocaiton) is a great way to make sure that the people of Hollinbury get problems solved and get thier voices heard. I'm excited about the groups who attend the LAT as they represent most if not all of the important local institutions which means we've got some real power behind us to get things done.

When I'm not emailing people or writing agendas, I work full time for a local church as an apprentice. I'm married to Lou and live on Bramble way. I enjoy living in Hollingbury because of all the great open spaces we have and the easy access to the downs and other such wonderful natural locations.

I hope to see you at one of our meetings.

Cheers,
Bob.”
